Everything You Need to Know About Mandalorian Season 4: Release Date, Cast, & More

The Mandalorian season 4 has reportedly been cancelled, as per Hollywood Reporter. While the creators haven’t officially confirmed this news, the absence of any updates or announcements since season 3 aired over a year ago points to a bleak outlook for the show’s future.

For anyone still holding out hope for updates on a potential season four, here’s what we’ve learned so far.

When Can We Expect The Mandalorian Season 4 on Disney+: Potential Release Date

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, The Mandalorian season four has been scrapped in favor of a new Star Wars feature film titled The Mandalorian & Grogu.

According to the report, Disney made the decision to shift focus from a fourth season of the beloved series to launch its first Star Wars movie since The Rise of Skywalker.

To make matters worse, the upcoming film is not slated for release until May 2026. This means that fans eager for more of the Mandalorian saga will have to wait well over a year before they get any continuation of the story.

If these reports are accurate, it appears that the season four scripts Jon Favreau had reportedly finished may have been reworked into The Mandalorian & Grogu film.

It remains uncertain whether this movie will serve as the conclusion of Mando and Grogu’s journey, or if it will breathe new life into the series and eventually lead into a proper season four. We’ll be sure to keep you informed as more details emerge.

The Mandalorian Season 4 Casts: Which Cast Members Are Returning?

If the story picks up after the movie, the cast will largely depend on where the plot goes. However, it’s safe to expect Pedro Pascal back as Din Djarin, the Mandalorian, along with Grogu by his side.

It’s hard to imagine Giancarlo Esposito returning as Moff Gideon, especially after Din, Bo-Katan, and Grogu, along with a fiery explosion, left him in ashes.

It’s possible we could see Amy Sedaris reprise her role as Peli Motto and Paul Sun-Hyung Lee return as Carson Teva in a potential fourth season of The Mandalorian.

Sadly, Carl Weathers, who brought the character of Magistrate Greef Karga to life, won’t be returning, as the actor passed away in February 2024.

On a brighter note, the series may introduce some new faces in the future. Sigourney Weaver, best known for her role in Alien, will join the upcoming Mandalorian film, although the details of her character are still under wraps. In August 2024, Weaver shared that she had already met Grogu and planned to shoot her scenes before heading to London for a starring role in a production of The Tempest.

The Mandalorian Season 4 Plot: How Does the Season 3 Finale Lead into the Next Chapter?

Given the developments up to this point, it’s safe to assume that the plot of The Mandalorian season 4 will heavily hinge on what unfolds in The Mandalorian & Grogu.

Since the film hasn’t been released yet, our understanding of what’s to come is mostly based on speculation drawn from the season three finale.

In fact, the ending of season three felt more like a natural conclusion than a setup for future seasons.

After Moff Gideon’s defeat, Din Djarin officially adopted Grogu as his son. As a result, Grogu now carries the name Din Grogu and has become a Mandalorian apprentice. The pair returned to Nevarro, where Greef Karga offered them a cabin outside of town as a place to call home.

Now that Grogu is under his wing, Din tells Carson Teva that he plans to be more selective about his work. He offers to take on assignments from the New Republic “on a case-by-case basis” – a personal arrangement between him and Carson.

Nevarro also has a new marshal, but it’s not Din Djarin – it’s the reprogrammed IG-11, voiced by Taika Waititi.

And that’s how season three ended, with Din Djarin and Grogu settling into their new peaceful life at their cabin.

The Mandalorian & Grogu now has the freedom to chart its own course. While the film could wrap up this chapter of Star Wars, it also has the potential to open doors to entirely new stories.

In an interview with Variety after the film’s unveiling at Star Wars Celebration 2023, Dave Filoni explained how the movie will tie together the threads of all the Disney+ series.

“On a fundamental level, it’s about the growing tension and the idea that the Empire wasn’t as fully defeated as people think,” Filoni said. “There’s still a remnant of it out there, and that’s where things are heading.”

Filoni elaborated: “From the start of The Mandalorian, we saw characters like Moff Gideon plotting behind the scenes. There will always be forces trying to disrupt the Republic’s efforts to rebuild.”

He added, “Growing up with the Expanded Universe, I saw stories exploring life after Return of the Jedi. Fans imagined a world where the Empire’s remnants still fought, even after the heroes’ victory. What did control really look like?”

He concluded, “With The Force Awakens set 30 years later, there’s room to expand on this story, which is what I’m working to develop.”
